CVE-2022-29843

Unauthenticated root code execution via unvalidated DDNS responses

Published Jan 25, 2023 · Updated Apr 4, 2025

Command injection in Western Digital NAS devices running Cloud OS 5 before 5.26.119 allows network-adjacent attackers to execute code as root. The DDNS response handler passes an unvalidated attacker-supplied string into a system call. Authentication is not required, but the attacker must be network-adjacent to the appliance; successful exploitation grants root-level code execution.
