Root code execution via do_reboot command injection
Published May 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025
OS command injection in Western Digital MyCloud OS 5 before 5.26.119 allows remote attackers with authenticated access to execute code as root. The do_reboot binary passes an attacker-controlled string to a system call without validation after a privileged command reads file data. Authentication is required, although a chained flaw can bypass that gate; successful exploitation provides a root reverse shell.
