CVE-2022-2982Public exploit

Code execution via recursive quickfix callback

Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Use-after-free in Vim before 9.0.0260 allows attackers to crash the editor or execute code when a crafted file is opened. The call_qftf_func function in src/quickfix.c permits recursive quickfixtextfunc invocation, allowing qf_fill_buffer to use memory freed during the nested call. Exploitation requires user interaction and a configured quickfixtextfunc that reaches the recursive path; resulting memory corruption can compromise data or interrupt the editor.
