CVE-2022-29814

Local code execution via HTML schema descriptions

Published Apr 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Code injection in JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA before 2022.1 allows attackers to execute local code via HTML descriptions in custom JSON schemas. The public record does not identify the unsafe renderer or execution primitive; JetBrains now documents escaping ordinary description values in Quick Documentation. Exploitation requires a custom schema to reach the IDE and user interaction to display its documentation, with resulting code execution in the user's session.
