Remote root access via embedded credentials

Hard-coded credentials in USR IOT router firmware 1.0.36 and 1.2.7 allow remote attackers to obtain highest-privilege shell access. The Linux distribution image embeds the password for an undisclosed usr account and reuses it as the default WLAN password without a normal way to change it. A reachable SSH service on TCP port 2222 accepts the credentials without prior authentication and permits arbitrary commands with UID 0 privileges.
