CVE-2022-2973Network attack vector

Server crash via zero-ID file-open response

Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in the MMS server in MZ Automation libIEC61850 allows remote attackers to crash the server via MMS. The file-upload task lookup accepts an unused task whose stored invoke ID matches zero, then the file-open response path dereferences its unset connection pointer. An unauthenticated MMS peer must return a confirmed file-open response with invoke ID zero; the bounded consequence is a server-process crash.
