CVE-2022-2972Network attack vector

Unauthenticated remote code execution or device crash

Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in MZ Automation libIEC61850 1.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code or crash devices. CISA has not published the affected function, field, or copy operation, so the precise overflow mechanism remains undisclosed. Network access to an application exposing an affected build is sufficient; successful exploitation causes a crash or arbitrary code execution.
