CVE-2022-2971Network attack vector

Server crash via zero invoke-ID task match

Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

Type confusion in MZ Automation libIEC61850 allows remote attackers to crash MMS servers with a malicious confirmed service response. getUploadTaskByInvokeId treats an unused, zero-initialized file-upload slot as the task for invoke ID 0 because it compares IDs without first checking task state. Unauthenticated network access to an MMS server is sufficient; the supported consequence is process termination, not code execution or data access.
