Network-control integrity loss via invalid intent modification
Published Apr 20, 2023 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Improper intent handling in ONOS 2.5.1 allows remote attackers to misrepresent network intent state through a crafted modification. The mod-intent path accepts a HostToHost intent whose source and destination are identical, reports it as INSTALLED, and installs no flow rules. Exploitation requires access to the control-plane intent interface and an existing intent; operators can trust a false installed state while traffic lacks the intended forwarding rules.
