Password disclosure via cleartext credential files

Published May 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Cleartext credential storage in Konica Minolta bizhub MFP firmware before 2022-04-14 allows attackers to read device passwords via filesystem access. The firmware stores the terminal and web administrator password in /var/log/nginx/html/ADMINPASS and the ORDBMS account password in /etc/shadow without protection. The published demonstration requires physical access, enabled Public User Access, a USB keyboard, and the separately documented kiosk escape and root Chromium process to reach the files.
