Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path
Published Apr 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
The disputed report states that kardianos service 1.2.1 and earlier allows local users to gain elevated Windows privileges. service_windows.go passes the executable path to m.CreateService without adding quotes, but the called implementation already escapes the argument. The original reporter and other reviewers could not reproduce an unquoted service entry, and GitHub subsequently withdrew its advisory.
