Code execution via uninitialized H3D parser index
Published Dec 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Use of uninitialized memory in Altair Engineering HyperView Player 2021.1.0.27 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code via H3D files. The H3D parser reads a DWORD from an uninitialized buffer, sign-extends it, and uses the result as an index into a stack variable when incrementing a counter, corrupting memory. Exploitation requires the target to open a crafted file or visit a malicious page, and code runs in the current process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
