Session takeover via fixed placeholder replacement
Published Jul 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in RainLoop Webmail 1.16.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through a crafted HTML email. HtmlUtils.php copies attacker-controlled body attributes into a wrapper, then str_replace replaces every fixed xxx marker, injecting sanitized email HTML into an attribute value. Execution occurs when an authenticated recipient views the message under default settings, enabling session takeover and email disclosure.
