Authenticated stored XSS via unsanitized Media URL
Published Sep 6, 2022 · Updated Feb 7, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Image Hover Effects Ultimate 9.7.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via a Media Image URL. The plugin stores the supplied URL for an Image Hover without sufficient input sanitization and later outputs it without escaping, so browser script executes when an injected page is viewed. Exploitation requires a user permitted to edit Image Hovers, including lower-privileged users when the administrator enables the Who Can Edit setting, and can affect visitors through script execution.
