CVE-2022-2930

Account takeover via unverified password replacement

Published Aug 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Unverified password change in OctoPrint before 1.8.3 allows remote authenticated users to replace a password without providing the current one. The change_password_for_user endpoint accepts a new password from a logged-in account and calls change_user_password without first checking the existing password. Possession of an active user session is required, enabling persistent account control or locking the legitimate account holder out.
