SMRAM and OS memory tampering via pointer checks
Published Nov 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
Memory corruption in InsydeH2O's NvmExpressDxe driver allows local users with high privileges to tamper with SMRAM and OS memory. The driver performs incorrect pointer checks before accessing supplied memory references, so accesses can cross the SMRAM boundary. Exploitation requires local high-privilege access and can corrupt protected firmware memory and operating-system memory, compromising their contents and availability.
