SMRAM corruption via untrusted AhciBusDxe SMI inputs
Published Nov 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in InsydeH2O AhciBusDxe allows local users with high privileges to corrupt SMRAM through crafted SMI inputs. The AhciBusDxe SMI handlers consume untrusted input when writing System Management RAM, allowing data to be written outside its intended bounds. Exploitation requires local high-privilege access and can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability beyond the operating-system boundary.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
