Account takeover via passwordless email-address change
Published Jun 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing reauthentication in Nagios XI 5.8.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to take over accounts via email changes. The account-settings handlers accept a new email address without checking the current password, then send password-reset messages to that address. An existing low-privilege session is required; changing the address lets the session holder reset the affected account password and assume that identity.
