JWT secret disclosure via algorithm-confusion error
Published Apr 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in Apache APISIX 2.13.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to read a JWT consumer secret via a crafted token. The jwt-auth handler returns lua-resty-jwt's verification reason verbatim; an RS256 token sent where HS256 is required embeds the HS256 secret in that error. A reachable route must use jwt-auth, and the attacker must know a consumer key; the disclosed secret permits forging that consumer's JWTs.
