CVE-2022-29242Network attack vector

TLS client crash via undersized key blob buffer

Published May 24, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Buffer overflow in GOST Engine before 3.0.1 allows remote attackers to interrupt TLS clients via a crafted GOST key transport exchange. The key transport blob creation and unpacking code supplied an output buffer smaller than required for the RFC 9189 variant when a 512-bit GOST server key was used, causing an overwrite. The gate is negotiation of TLS_GOSTR341112_256_WITH_KUZNYECHIK_CTR_OMAC with such a server; published evidence describes availability impact without confidentiality or integrity impact.
