CVE-2022-29225Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote service interruption via decompressor buffer amplification

Published Jun 9, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025

Improper compressed-data handling in Envoy before 1.22.1 allows remote attackers to exhaust memory via a crafted HTTP body. All decompressor filters accumulate expanded data in an intermediate buffer before decodeBody or encodeBody replaces the message body, without bounding the expansion ratio. A configured decompressor filter and an untrusted downstream or upstream peer are required; memory exhaustion interrupts the proxy service.
