CVE-2022-29208Public exploit

Process crash via negative EditDistance indices

Published May 20, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in affected TensorFlow releases allows local users to crash a process through crafted EditDistance tensor indices. EditDistanceOp derives loc from hypothesis or truth indices but checks only loc < output_elements before writing output_t(loc), allowing negative locations to address memory before the output buffer. The attacker must be able to submit tensors to a local TensorFlow execution; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation-fault process crash.
