Process crash via nonscalar StagePeek index
Published May 20, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Improper input validation in Google TensorFlow allows local users to crash an affected process through a malformed StagePeek index. StagePeekOp in tensorflow/core/kernels/stage_op.cc treats index as a scalar and reads it before confirming that the input tensor has scalar shape. The caller must execute the raw operation with a nonscalar index; the failed CHECK terminates the hosting TensorFlow process without exposing or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
