CVE-2022-29178

Host compromise via group-accessible node API

Published May 20, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Incorrect default permissions in Cilium before 1.9.16, 1.10.0 through 1.10.10, and 1.11.0 through 1.11.4 allow local users to access its node API. The container image creates the cilium group as group ID 1000, allowing a host user with that numeric group and host-file-system access to open the node API Unix socket. Exploitation requires both forms of local access and permits modification through the node API or interruption of services on that host.
