CVE-2022-29104

SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link DLL loading

Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Jan 2, 2025

Privilege escalation in the Windows Print Spooler on affected Microsoft Windows releases allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The Print Spooler service follows an attacker-created symbolic link and loads an arbitrary DLL in its privileged process context. Exploitation requires prior low-privileged code execution on the target and grants full SYSTEM-level control over files, processes, and services.
