CVE-2022-29072Public exploit

Local code execution via HTML Help drag-and-drop

Published Apr 15, 2022 · Updated Jun 9, 2025

Code execution in 7-Zip through 21.07 on Windows allows local users to run commands by dragging a crafted archive into Help Contents. The public demonstration uses embedded script and ActiveXObject to invoke WScript.Shell through the HTML Help view, creating a child process under 7zFM.exe. Local interactive access and permissive ActiveX settings are required; the maintainer and third parties dispute any privilege gain beyond the current user.
