Host crash via unchecked RGB frame length
Published May 20, 2022 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Buffer overflow in OpenRazer 3.3.0 and earlier allows local users to crash the host or escalate privileges through a crafted RGB frame. The razermouse driver's matrix_custom_frame handler derives row_length from attacker-controlled column values and copies that many RGB bytes into a fixed-size report argument array without bounding the length. Reachability requires local write access to the Linux sysfs device; a crafted frame can corrupt kernel memory, crash the host, or support privilege escalation.
