CVE-2022-28990Public exploit

Memory disclosure via unchecked WASI buffer ranges

Published May 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds access in wasm3 0.5.0 allows local users to disclose process memory by running a crafted WebAssembly module. The WASI read, write, pread, and pwrite adapters convert guest iovec offsets and lengths into host pointers without checking that each range remains inside linear memory. Exploitation requires the ability to execute an attacker-controlled module with WASI enabled; the published proof of concept demonstrates an out-of-bounds host read and memory disclosure.
