User redirection via multiple-slash URL bypass
Published Sep 22, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Open redirect in Liferay Portal 7.3.1 through 7.4.2 and affected Liferay DXP releases allows remote attackers to redirect users. HtmlUtil.escapeRedirect treats crafted URLs beginning with multiple forward slashes as relative, so redirect parameters such as redirect and FORWARD_URL accept an external destination. Exploitation requires a user to trigger the crafted request, after which the application sends that user to an attacker-chosen external site.
