Consensus service interruption via oversized viewchange message
Published May 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Integer overflow in FISCO-BCOS 3.0.0-rc2 allows remote attackers controlling a malicious node to interrupt service via a large viewchange packet. The viewchange message-processing path accepts a packet large enough to overflow an integer; public sources do not identify the exact function or arithmetic operation. The attacker must participate as a blockchain node, and the demonstrated consequence is loss of availability rather than data disclosure or modification.
