Editor crash via prematurely freed split expression
Published Aug 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in Vim before 9.0.0225 allows attackers to crash the editor when a crafted Vim9 script is processed. The expression evaluator frees command-line storage while split-expression and lambda parsing still retain pointers into that storage. Triggering the stale reference requires user interaction with attacker-supplied script content and corrupts memory within the Vim process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
