Scanning-engine crash via PE-unpacking infinite loop
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Denial of service in F-Secure and WithSecure endpoint protection products allows remote attackers to crash the scanning engine. The aerdl.so and aerdl.dll PE-unpacking modules can enter an infinite loop instead of terminating while processing a PE file. The remote trigger requires the scanning engine to process the file, and a successful trigger interrupts malware scanning by hanging or crashing the engine.
