CVE-2022-2879Network attack vector

Service crash via unbounded archive header allocation

Published Oct 14, 2022 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Resource exhaustion in Go standard library archive/tar before 1.18.7 and 1.19.0 through 1.19.1 allows remote attackers to crash services. Reader.next accepts attacker-controlled PAX and GNU special-header sizes and reads entire header blocks into memory without enforcing a maximum. An application must process an attacker-supplied tar archive; exhaustion can terminate the parsing process or its hosting service.
