CVE-2022-28757

Root privilege escalation via replaceable update package

Published Aug 18, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Insufficient update-package verification in Zoom Client for Meetings for macOS 5.7.3 through 5.11.5 allows local users to gain root. The privileged auto updater installs a package whose ownership is not reset, allowing a low-privileged user to substitute its content after validation. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and an update opportunity; successful substitution executes attacker-controlled package content as root.
