Root code execution via firmware validation race
Published Apr 21, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A TOCTOU race in Foscam R2C firmware through System 1.13.1.6 and Application 2.91.2.66 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. The firmware-update path validates an uploaded update and later installs from the same mutable input, allowing a malicious patch to replace the checked content before use. Administrator access to the network update interface is required; successful exploitation grants root control of the camera and access to its live stream.
