CVE-2022-28714

Local privilege escalation via writable DLL search paths

Published May 5, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

DLL hijacking in F5 BIG-IP Edge Client Windows Installer before 7.2.1.5 allows local users to gain elevated privileges. During privileged driver and tunnel setup, the installer searches attacker-writable directories for DLLs and executes a planted library. A local foothold and user initiation of the installer are required, after which the planted code runs with the installer's elevated privileges.
