Privilege escalation via unprotected MEBx provisioning
Published Aug 18, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Improper access control in Intel AMT and Intel Standard Manageability firmware allows physically proximate attackers to gain privileges. The boot-time MEBx configuration interface accepts AMT provisioning when BIOS password protection is absent. Physical platform access is required, and successful use grants management privileges without the end user's knowledge.
