Utility crash via unchecked crop dimensions
Published Aug 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in LibTIFF tiffcrop before 4.4.0rc1 allows local users to crash the utility with a crafted TIFF file. Invalid crop dimensions are computed before validation and later cause reverseSamples16bits to read beyond its input buffer. Exploitation requires tiffcrop to process the file with relevant crop and mirroring options, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination.
