Memory corruption via truncated percent encoding
Published Aug 5, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Out-of-bounds read and write in FreshTomato 2022.1 allows remote attackers to corrupt httpd memory via a crafted HTTP request. The cgi.c unescape function assumes every percent sign has two following hexadecimal characters, then strcpy shifts data from beyond a truncated encoding. No authentication or user interaction is required; the documented result is memory corruption, not demonstrated code execution or service interruption.
