CVE-2022-28653Network attack vector

Disk exhaustion in restricted quota environments

Published Jan 31, 2025 · Updated Feb 7, 2025

Resource exhaustion in Canonical Apport before 2.21.0 allows attackers to consume unlimited disk space through files in /var/crash. Canonical has not published the specific code path or write operation that permits crash data to grow without a storage bound. The issue affects restricted environments that rely on per-user disk quotas, where exhausting /var/crash can interrupt services that need the shared filesystem.
