Cookie prefix restriction bypass via empty names
Published Sep 26, 2022 · Updated May 21, 2025
Cookie policy bypass in Google Chrome before 104.0.5112.101 allows remote attackers to evade cookie prefix restrictions via crafted HTML. CanonicalCookie accepted cookies with an empty name whose value impersonated a reserved cookie-name prefix instead of rejecting them as noncanonical. Successful exploitation requires a user to load attacker-controlled HTML and permits creation of cookies that evade the __Secure- or __Host- prefix safeguards.
