Code execution via installer DLL search path
Published May 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Uncontrolled DLL loading in Trend Micro Password Manager 3.7.0.1223 and earlier allows local users to execute code through its installer. The installer searches its own directory and loads a particular DLL from there instead of restricting resolution to a trusted location. Exploitation requires a planted DLL beside the installer and user interaction to run it; the code inherits the installer's privileges.
