Server spoofing via lost TLS verification
Published Apr 2, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper certificate validation in WeeChat 3.2 through 3.4 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof TLS servers with arbitrary certificates. Changing either GnuTLS CA option drops the certificate-verification function from subsequent IRC and plugin connections. The flaw is reachable only when an option changes without a restart, exposing protected traffic to man-in-the-middle attackers.
