SQL injection via unvalidated QuerySet.explain option names
Published Apr 12, 2022 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
SQL injection in Django 2.2 before 2.2.28, 3.2 before 3.2.13, and 4.0 before 4.0.4 allows remote attackers to execute SQL. QuerySet.explain passes option names into PostgreSQL's EXPLAIN prefix without validation, so crafted dictionary keys become SQL syntax. Exploitation requires a PostgreSQL-backed application path that passes attacker-controlled option names to QuerySet.explain and can expose, alter, or delete database data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
