Browser crash via inconsistent selection cache
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Denial of service in Mozilla Firefox before 99 allows context-dependent attackers to crash the browser through crafted page content. Inconsistent ContentCacheInParent text lengths invalidate the selection, causing TSFTextStore to return E_FAIL to text queries and Windows IME processing to terminate Firefox. The attack requires a user to select the crafted text on Windows, and the reported consequence is a recoverable browser crash rather than code execution.
