Browser crash via freed localization object dereference
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Use-after-free in Mozilla Firefox before 99, Firefox ESR before 91.8, and Thunderbird before 91.8 allows remote attackers to cause a crash. DocumentL10n::TranslateDocument destroys an object during JavaScript execution and then dereferences its freed pointer while processing a crafted link with rel="localization". Successful triggering requires a user to load attacker-controlled content; Thunderbird message reading normally disables scripting, limiting its exposure to browser-like contexts.
