Unauthenticated SYSTEM code execution via encoding overflow
Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 18, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Kepware KEPServerEX 6.11.718.0 allows remote attackers to execute code as SYSTEM without authentication. A text-encoding conversion copies user-supplied data into a stack buffer without first validating its length, allowing the buffer to overflow. Network access to the affected service is sufficient; successful exploitation grants SYSTEM-level code execution and can fully compromise the server host.
