Unauthenticated code execution via XXE deserialization chain
Published Apr 5, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
XXE in Cewolf in Zoho ManageEngine ADAudit Plus before 7060 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through unauthenticated APIs. ProcessTrackingListener parses scheduled-task XML with an external-entity-enabled DocumentBuilderFactory, enabling a payload upload that Cewolf FileStorage then locates through path traversal and deserializes. The attacker needs only the monitored Windows domain name; successful exploitation runs code under the ADAudit Plus service account and can expose its Active Directory privileges.
