Process crash via stale register item reuse
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024
Use-after-free in radare2 5.4.0 and 5.4.2 allows attackers to crash the process when the aaft analysis path updates registers. The type-matching loop retains an RRegItem pointer across ESIL stepping that can invalidate it, then passes the stale pointer to r_reg_set_value. Reaching the crash requires invoking aaft on content that exercises the affected type-matching path; no code-execution or data-disclosure impact is documented.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
