Service crash via unchecked slow-array layout
Published Apr 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in NGINX njs 0.7.2 allows local users to crash the script-processing host with a crafted large array literal. In njs_vmcode_array, njs_array_alloc() can return a slow array for a large literal, but the bytecode handler assumes a flat array and writes through array->start without checking fast_array. Triggering the crash requires execution of attacker-influenced JavaScript; upstream treats scripts as trusted configuration and states that nginx is unaffected when no js_import directive is present.
